Sadly, it's true. Amazon has elected not to move forward with the new Stargate series.

There's not much I can add beyond confirming what's happened. But I will say this...

Creator Martin Gero developed a new Stargate series over two years, ultimately crafting a show that offered a fresh jumping-on point for new viewers while deeply respecting existing canon. It was a series that avoided the pitfalls of several modern remakes and reboots by fully embracing the core of its predecessors: action, adventure, exploration, wonder, heart, humor, and found family. And based on that creative vision, the new Stargate series was greenlit in November of 2025.

As of today, officially, that original vision is no more. We'll never get the opportunity to introduce you to that world and those characters - or reintroduce you to, and check in with, some familiar faces from the past.

My heart breaks. For the incredibly talented writers who worked tirelessly to bring this show to life. For Martin who maintained an unwavering positive outlook throughout despite the challenges, and who always strove to make a show that would honor the fans while welcoming a new audiences. And for the long-suffering Stargate fandom who waited so long and came so close to getting a show they truly would have loved.

There is no Irish electoral mandate for carbon tax on diesel, petrol and home heating oil. The Greens were booted OUT in the last election. The continued imposition of these carbon taxes is anti-democratic. Remove them immediately and deliver some relief to the Irish people and respect their vote.
VAT on fuel should also be cut, out of economic decency and common sense. The cost of energy must come down and the fact that the government is responsible for about half of it means they have a lot of space to act. #FuelProtest

Sure, your eyes aren’t tricking you. That clip looks better than the new trailer, and the reason has nothing to do with talent. The VFX supervisor on Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014? Jerome Chen. The VFX supervisor on Brand New Day? Also Jerome Chen. Same person. Completely different system around him.

In 2014, Chen had 50 effects artists at Sony Imageworks, the largest VFX crew the studio had ever put on a single project. They handled about 1,000 of the film’s 1,600 VFX shots on a $255 million budget. The crew shot on real film (not digital), on location in actual New York City, scanned Times Square with 36,000 photographs of over 100 billboards, and built physical lighting rigs on set so the CGI would match the real world.

Now look at how Marvel makes Spider-Man movies. No Way Home had 2,500 VFX shots spread across 12 studios and about 3,000 artists. The budget was $200 million, $55 million less than TASM2 despite having 56% more VFX shots. Digital Domain, one of the VFX vendors, was delivering final shots days before the December 17, 2021, release. They kept reworking shots into mid-January, after the movie was already in theaters.

Zoom out, and the math gets worse. Marvel released 6 films between 2008 and 2012. From 2023 to 2025, they pushed out 7 films and 7 TV shows. The Hollywood union representing VFX workers reported that Marvel pays artists about 20% below industry average and staffs one person where other studios hire three. Artists described 64-hour weeks and breakdowns on the job. Then, in February 2025, Technicolor, the parent company of MPC (three-time Oscar winner for Life of Pi, The Jungle Book, and 1917), collapsed almost overnight. 4,500 jobs gone globally. The studio had been actively working on Disney and Paramount films when the lights went out.

Brand New Day has four months before release, and trailers routinely show unfinished shots. But the gap between a 2014 Spider-Man and a 2026 Spider-Man has nothing to do with technology going backwards. The industry has been asked to do three times the work for less money per shot while its biggest studios are going under.

The Garda Síochána Powers Bill 2026 is now moving through the Oireachtas, and people need to understand what it means for their constitutional rights. This is not a small technical Bill. It goes right to the heart of personal liberty, privacy, and the limits of State power.

The first major issue is personal liberty. Under Article 40.4 of the Constitution, your freedom of movement is protected. You cannot be detained unless it is strictly in accordance with law. But this Bill allows Gardaí to require a person who is not under arrest to accompany them to a Garda station for a search. That is a deprivation of liberty in substance. Irish law is clear. If someone restricts your movement without proper authority, that is false imprisonment. And the law says consent is not valid if it is obtained by force, threat, or by making you believe you have no choice. This Bill risks creating detention without arrest and without the safeguards that normally protect people.

The second issue is privacy and personal data. The Bill gives Gardaí the power to operate your electronic devices, extract your data, copy it, and keep it. That means your messages, your photos, your contacts, your private life. The Constitution protects your personal rights, including privacy and the integrity of your data. These powers are extremely broad, and the Bill does not include strong limits or protections for sensitive information. There are no special safeguards for journalists, lawyers, political activists, or children. Once your data is taken, it can be examined and stored, and that raises serious constitutional concerns.

The third issue is the inviolability of the home. The Constitution protects your dwelling with the highest level of security. But this Bill allows search warrants for a wide range of offences, including some that are minor. When you combine that with the digital powers, it means a search of your home could lead to a full extraction of your digital life. That may not be proportionate or necessary.

The fourth issue is freedom of expression and assembly. Expanded stop and search powers in public places can have a chilling effect on protests, political gatherings, and public demonstrations. People may feel intimidated or afraid to attend events if they believe they can be stopped, searched, or have their devices taken without strong justification.

The fifth issue is the rights of children. The Bill does not contain child‑specific protections. Children’s phones and devices often contain extremely sensitive information. There is no special procedure for searching minors or handling their data. That is a major gap.

This is not about being anti Garda. It is about ensuring that any new powers respect the Constitution. Personal liberty, privacy, the home, freedom of expression, and the rights of children are not optional. They are fundamental rights. And once powers like these are handed over, they are very difficult to take back.

People need to understand what is in this Bill now, while it is still moving through the Oireachtas. Your rights matter. Your privacy matters. Your freedom matters. And this Bill deserves serious public scrutiny.

Paschal Donohoe is to resign. Expect many serious commentators to talk about what a loss this is, what a capable minister, a steady hand at the tiller etc. Allow me to prebunk:

Donohoe promised to abolish the USC ahead of the 2016, 2020 and 2024 general elections. He never abolished the USC . During his time as a govt TD taxes have increased across all categories, from VAT to capital gains, excise and taxes on fuel, booze . He's increased the tax thresholds in two budgets but these increases don't even cover even 10% of the value that has been destroyed by inflation during the same period.

Ireland is now 35/38 OECD countries on tax competitiveness, and 37/38 for tax on income. To make things far worse, Donohoe presided over sweeping employment law changes that require employers to fund employee pension, sick leave and holiday pay. These changes are being rolled out now and will costs thousands of people their jobs.

Donohoe also saw the introduction of carbon and other green taxes and levies that are gutting the disposable income of normal people. During the same period, energy costs have ballooned to the extent that Ireland now has the highest retail energy costs in the EU and the lack of a secure energy supply is means billions of euro of potential investment is diverted to other more competitive jurisdictions.

For the last 10 years Donohoe has carefully cultivated an image of a sober and judicious Finance Minister . Since taking over at DPER , he and his DOF colleagues have taken public spending from 76bn to 126bn, an increase of 63%, with demonstrably less oversight and accountability than there has ever been . Much of this increase is baked into current spending, even though by his own departments' analysis, there is zero guarantee that the tax revenue will continue to come in.

Since becoming a government TD in 2011 he and his trade union buddies have awarded themselves 14 separate "negotiated" increases to their pay and pensions . His pension pot is at least an order of magnitude larger than most people will make over their entire lives.

When the FG /Lab government took over in 2011 it was still possible to start a company, rent an office, hire some people and make some money. 14 years on and there is only the State. Small businesses are dropping like flies. Dublin is gutted. Office blocks are half full and the north inner city is basically the third world. Nobody with a brain would even consider hiring a full time employee now. To put it simply , more than any other individual , Donohoe has played a key role in bringing Ireland and Dublin to its knees.

Since becoming president of the Eurogroup in 2020, Donohoe has invested all addressable political capital in aiding and abetting Christine Lagarde's CDBC , the most important step in implementing a Chinese CCP-style social credit system in which every financial transaction is routed through a government filter.

During his tenure as the President of the Eurogroup , the euro has lost about 25% of its spending power, a massive tax on savers and private pensions, and a real reduction in the standard of living for hundreds of millions of european workers. Paschal fully supported all of the decisions of the ECB during this time.

For these and other reasons, it's my view that Paschal Donohoe is one of the most cynical , nasty and destructive politicians to ever hold office in an Irish government. He should be remembered that way. Good riddance.
