Over the past year, the ties between Tamil Nadu and Western Australia have strengthened considerably, thanks in no small part to the many officers of Western Australia, right up to the Rt. Hon. Roger Cook, the Deputy Premier. Last Sunday, I hosted dinner for a Parliamentary Delegation led by the Hon. Michelle Roberts, Speaker of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly, Members Dr David Honey, Dr Jagadish Krishnan and Mr. David Scaife, and Ms. Kirsten Robinson, the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly. We also enjoyed the company of Australia’s Consul General for South India @AusCGChennai Ms. Sarah Kirlew and Trade Commissioner for the Region Mr. Abdul Ekram.

Little did we realize at the time that the Premier the Rt. Hon. Mark McGowan (who enjoyed a majority of 53 members in a house of 59) would resign citing fatigue within the next 12 hours, and that the Rt. Hon. Roger Cook would be chosen by his colleagues as the new Premier a day later!

There’s an old saw that a week is a lifetime in politics. Sometimes even a day can bring sea-change, it seems!!!
