It took me a whole day to figure out how to put my feelings into words, because there is truly nobody else like Bain to me in this world.
Last Sunday, I talked with him about how I still constantly feel confused, both as a queer person and as an East Asian kid constantly navigating my identity across different cultures. He took a moment to think, held my hands, and said, “It’s okay to feel hurt and confused at this point. I get you, and I feel you. I see that confidence and shine in you. Please promise me that you will never let that go away. You will turn out great, and you will do great things. I have faith in you.”
I burst into tears, and all I could think about was how lucky I am to have him in my life.
Just as he did for me, he is changing so many people’s lives for the better. He is someone who is truly making a difference, and I am beyond grateful to witness it all, to stand by his side, and to be his firm supporter.
In an interview with Pop Base, JUST B’s Bain reflects on becoming the first openly gay male idol in an active K-Pop group, queer visibility in Korean entertainment and more.
