I found myself liking the blind man at first because he has become good at finding ways to provide for himself, but towards the end, we see that he was able to do this by not only exploiting those with money but also those who were struggling to survive like the boy #xuengl205

What do you think Parker is trying to show the readers by having the story focus on the thoughts of the Crugers and not knowing anything about the other servants? Is it to show that the Crugers do not care what their employees think or want? #xuengl205

@ariesthakid I do think they act this way because of a sense of wanting to hold on to their "perfect" life. Being handsome with money has gotten the Crugers far in life and they think that Miss Wilmarth is chipping at their picture-perfect life.

I loved the beginning because it is just another family willing to risk certain values and morals to get themselves out of poverty, but then they lose more and more of their values to keep the stability they have longed for. #xuengl205

@Parkerj1811 Sometimes it can be hard to think about other families when yours is also struggling. And he probably tried not to think about but he finally did think about it and wonders what will happen to them I think.

Rule 12, "Middle class feels like the one percent when you’re stuck below the poverty line", really hit me personally. This rule really shows the reality and differences between people in different social classes. #xuengl205

@CharlieS_42 I think she turns her nose up at those that have more because they take it for granted and do not appreciate what they have. They also look down at her lifestyle and treat her badly for it but do nothing to truly help.

I like how the book ends but his story is still going. We don't know what will happen with him and Kieran, or if he continues to perform drag after college, etc. It shows that someone's story is constantly changing and growing #xuengl205

I love that as Michael is finally finding somewhere to belong, creating a solid friend group, healing his relationship with Daisy, and making more decisions for himself, he meets Kieran again. He is learning more about himself and now he has an opportunity with Kieran. #xuengl205

We see Michael continue to struggle with where he fits in in terms of his identity. He doesn't feel like he fits in with the African Caribbean society, the Hellenic Society, or the LGBT society. But this helps guide him to find the Drag society. #xuengl205

@rori_kaitlyn I don't think it's because she thought they would be less British but out of fear that they would be singled out even more for speaking another language. Many Billingual parents do this so as to not "confuse" their children but in reality, it separates them from their culture.

On pg 161-162 Michael feels disconnected from his family because he needs his mom to translate everything. His mom never spoke it because she wanted the kids to fit in in London. Do you think this is ok? Or should she have thought them to fit in with their family? #xuengl205

I think it is important that Michael's math teacher gave him a notebook for his poems and did not judge him for what he wrote. Do you think his teacher was worried about what he was writing since it was a catholic school? #xuengl205
