Everytime I thought I knew where the plot was taking me, something crazier happened each time 😳 I enjoyed the story I think having it set in a dystopian setting really helped push the moral, showing how important communication and language are to shaping society. #xuengl205

@engl205 I was thinking the same, she’s only seen for her disability and the people around her treat her awfully. I think this is worse when you realize that they try to physically help her cure her disability but completely disregard her well-being .

I thought it was interesting how the narrator(s) of the story was “we.” It made the tone of the story hypercritical. By not having Bibi as the narrator we don’t get the inner monologue, which means we can only see Bibi for what others see her as; disabled. #xuengl205

@pete_cashen I think the motive was to garner more sympathy, the blind man seeing how explosive the father is, asking the boy how he looks and then spending the money would be too convenient so I think the blind man was plotting

I found it interesting how up until the end the boy was willing to go along with begging yet towards the end something shifts. What do you think triggered Maico to flip the coins and leave the blind man truly helpless? #xuengl205

Even though Miss Wilmarth possess a lot of good attributes (even motherly ones) there’s a bias for beauty and advantages that come with being perceived beautiful. Do you think the Crugers act this way because they fear losing their beauty? #xuengl205

“Collecting pills for a rainy day” really stood out to me it almost seems like at this socioeconomic status the time to give up is impending. #xuengl205

@CharlieS_42 @engl205 That and, it’s a literal depiction of class. The park family lives higher up than any of the other families we see kind of like a totem pole of status the high up you are the more wealthy.

Heavy classism in parasite, I noticed that elevation seemed to equate status, due to this the flood scene was especially impactful because it showed that what was a debilitating event for the lower class, virtually had no effect on the wealthy. #xuengl205

I found the essay very compelling, there is so much stigma surrounding poverty and welfare. I also found it interesting how shame seems to be synonymous with poverty or at least very closely related. #xuengl205

Michael is such a dynamic character. Struggling with being perceived he struggled with others perception of him and attempted to change different aspects of himself to fit the norms of society in the end for him to grow confident in his own perception of self is moving #xuengl205

P. 241! WHAT is the fascination with our hair?! Also, the aspect of visibility as it relates to identity is huge in this chapter (uncle b getting stopped and the exchange with the flat mate.) #xuengl205

@Parkerj1811 I enjoyed this part of the story as well especially because it was unexpected to Michael he feared Kieran and Kierans reaction and was pleasantly surprised when he wasn’t belittled or berated for/about his sexuality but instead supported

Throwing up rainbow is such vivid imagery, I see how the literal meaning is those rainbow skittles Michael ate but could it also be a reference to trying to hide your sexuality? It will come out it has to come out sometimes that’s in a violent or unpleasant manner? #xuengl205
