In 2024, Samajwadi Party leader Moid Khan was arrested and accused in the gangrape of a minor. The case was heavily politicised, Even CM Yogi Adityanath spoke about it in the Assembly, He also repeat the same during Aligarh rally. BJP leaders visited the victim’s house, Moid’s properties were bulldozed, and photos were circulated to link him with SP MP Awadhesh Prasad. His bail was rejected and a Gangster Act case was also slapped on him.
Now, a POCSO court in Ayodhya has acquitted Moid Khan after the prosecution failed to substantiate the charges. During arguments, the defence pointed out serious contradictions. The FIR mentioned the crime scene as a bakery, but the investigation placed it far away from Moid’s bakery. The victim initially named Mohit along with the main convict, but in a later statement allegedly under police pressure, Moid Khan’s name was inserted instead.
Despite the acquittal in the rape case, Moid Khan remains in jail as a Gangster Act case was also added against him.
