Throwing Athletes and The Role of Nerves In Shoulder Pain

Treatment of the throwing athlete with shoulder pain remains among the more challenging aspects of orthopedic sports medicine.

Nerve compressions and pain syndromes should be included in the differential diagnosis of these athletes. Early detection of symptoms, careful clinical examination, and exclusion of other usual structural pathologies around the shoulder may raise suspicion of possible nerve compression syndrome for the throwing athlete.

A coordinated approach among trainers, therapists, and physicians is required for the comprehensive treatment of nerve compression symptoms and related shoulder pain in the throwing athlete.
