WATCH: Senate President Win Gatchalian says the Senate cannot afford to grant Vice President Sara Duterte’s request for the chamber to shoulder the food, beverage, and catering costs of her defense team throughout the impeachment trial.

Gatchalian said that while the Senate still has available funds, it will need to rent the Philippine International Convention Center for deliberations on the proposed 2027 national budget because its committee rooms are occupied for the trial.

ang budget every fiscal year ay inaapprove tuwing December the year before through the General Appropriations Act (GAA). ideally, naka-itemize publicly lahat per agency (pwera sa ibang unique funds like confidential and intelligence funds, unprogrammed funds na wala pang budget, etc.).

as former DepEd Secretary at VP, bakit hindi ito alam ni VP Sara? 90+ days ang trial. Magkano aabutin ng catering for the whole defense team, aides, etc. for 90+ days? saan huhugutin ang pondo? even sa ganitong demand ni VP Sara, alam mo nang napaka-incompetent at walang pagpapahalaga sa pera ng bayan.

take note that when PNoy took over in 2010, ang minana niyang classroom backlog ay 66,800 classrooms. he wiped out the backlog by 2014 at nag-iwan pa ng sobra. yet with Duterte as president from 2016-2022, and BBM as president and Sara as education secretary until her resignation, 165,000 classrooms ang existing backlog.

during budget season last year, ang laki ng pondong nilaan para tugunan ang backlog. kailangan natin bantayan ngayon kung ilang classrooms ba talaga ang naipatayo. siguraduhin din nating mananatili itong priority sa nalalapit na budget season ulit this year.
