Dear @FIFAcom,
Could you please clarify how the display of the “Las Malvinas Son Argentinas” banner after the World Cup semi-final complies with your own regulations?
The FIFA World Cup Regulations, Article 12 (Equipment) state:
“The display of political, religious, or personal messages or slogans in any language or form by players and officials on their playing or team kits, equipment… or body is prohibited.”
In addition, Law 4.5 of the IFAB Laws of the Game (The Players’ Equipment) states:
“Equipment must not have any political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images.” It further explains that political statements relating to governments, political acts or national issues are not permitted.
The sovereignty of the Falkland Islands/Malvinas is an ongoing political dispute between the United Kingdom and Argentina. On that basis, many would reasonably view the banner as a political statement.
If these regulations are to retain credibility, surely they must be enforced consistently, regardless of the nation involved.
I would appreciate FIFA’s clarification.
One last tweet then I’m moving on -
If Argentina are happy to get to the finals by cheating and thuggery then that’s on them.. the whole world sees it and hates you
Also if Argentinian fans and players hate England so much, stop supporting and playing for English teams 😘
That Argentina banner actually breaks tons of FIFA regulations. Political neutrality, discrimination, stadium code of conduct, equipment regulations.
If a lesser nation did that in a qualifier they'd be kicked out.
IT’S NOT AN ANTI-ARGENTINA CAMPAIGN‼️
People are simply asking for a World Cup with no favoritism. A tournament with emotion, fair play, and real football.
Egypt takes the lead? Penalty.
Switzerland equalizes? Red card.
Messi commits similar fouls? No booking.
Simeone commits a foul, gets away with it. Anderson runs into Messi and he’s booked
France, the Netherlands, Croatia… early penalties that completely change the flow of games.
People don’t want special treatment. They just want the same rules applied to everyone.
Ever since Qatar, many fans have felt that Argentina have been playing with a tailwind. This World Cup has done nothing to change that perception.
Every Argentine player in the English Premier League who took part in this ugly anti-British display should be stripped of their UK work visa. There should be zero tolerance for this.
FIFA wanted to build a narrative of Messi being loved by the whole world and what we got is everyone respecting his rivals for trying their hardest against corruption LOL
