Casual references to autistic stereotypes, if you're a non verbal autistic person, you've no language at all apparently and the 'just send your DNA and we can help you' jolly message...no thanks.
Want to understand autistic people?
Here's a novel idea - just ASK us! #askus
What is autism? 💬
On #BBCBreakfast Professor Sir Simon Baron-Cohen explains why he’s looking for 10,000 autistic people to take part in UK's largest ever study of the condition.

Exciting things coming for the next iteration of Anchor, building on the project's work this year, but it means late evening working! Looking forward to being able to reach more people and spread the #peersupport love.

Happy #InternationalCatDay from Anchor CEO Molly. She is having a day off and chilling at Anchor HQ in #carlisle
She ensures her #ActuallyAutistic staff keep well when working, so thank you Molly and to all cats who look after their humans as well as she does!
We are #NOT all #Autistic
We may be able to emphasise, but we are certainly NOT all 'a little bit autistic' please stop saying it, it's like saying we are all a little bit #agoraphobic because some days we don't feel like going out. #NotTheSameThing
Today is #STOMP#STAMP day with @NHSAbility@NHSEngland. Check out @VoiceAbility's STOMP top tips for advocates. Let's all play our part to make sure that people with learning disabilities are not given medicine that's not right for them.

Love this flipping of the narrative.
'Do I need rest or peace before working?'
Thank you for the gift of a different perspective @Whoever_That_Is ❤️
Definitely passing this wisdom to our 1-1 and group members.
@awesomebrandi I was taught to "power through" overwhelming things and that hurts me longer-term; so it's less "how much needs done before relaxing" & more "do I need rest or peace before working?"
Sometimes a walk, a snack, or a nap; others, it's being done for the day- resetting emotionally.
CEO (Cat Executive Officer) Molly made a fleeting appearance at our online peer support group today and is now supervising work at Anchor HQ.
The beauty of an online group. Your cat (& other pets- sorry Molly) can attend with you!
Pets, blankets, cups of tea - whatever helps.
strategies for ensuring mental health therapy provision works for autistic people.
Many autistic adults in this group cannot or do not access social care, housing provision and aren't known to health care providers - we simply fall between the cracks and will continue to do so.
At Anchor, we provide peer support for autistic adults who don't have a concurrent learning disability.
The #autismstrategy fails to acknowledge the distinct challenges this group face with no specific strategies to tackle the inequalities accessing care and support 1/4
We cautiously welcome the extension of LeDeR programme to include autistic adults without a learning disability. Yet, there's no tackling the highly increased risk of suicide this group faces or the shockingly high rates of mental health problems and no specific 3/4
Finally the revised National Strategy for Autism is here, long awaited and much bumped in arrival.
It's going to be a long day.
