🗣️ 그는 원래 팝 음악계의 아이콘인 마이클에게 리사를 직접 만나 그녀의 노래를 들어보라고 설득했습니다. 당시에는 어디까지나 사업적인 만남이었죠.
🧔🏼‍♀️ 그래서 그래서 제가 마이클한테 말했죠. “음, 마이클, 내가 당신한테 이 세상에서 내가 생각하기에 정말 최고의 사람을 한 명 소개해주면 어떨까? 아직 사람들에게 많이 알려지지도 않았고, 노래도 정말 잘하고, 예쁘고, 정말 뭐 하나 빠지는 게 없는 사람이야”

‘대체 누구 얘기하는 거야? 누구인데?’라고 하더라고요.
그래서 제가 ‘리사 프레슬리.’라고 했죠.
그랬더니 마이클이 ‘뭐? 리사가 노래도 해?’라고 하는 거예요.
그래서 제가 ‘정말 잘해.’라고 했죠.
그러니까 마이클이 ‘음, 음… 브렛, 그럼 나 당연히 관심 있지. 테이프 같은 거 하나 구해줄 수 있어?’라고 하더라고요.
🗣️ 그런데 리사는 테이프를 보내고 싶어 하지 않았습니다. 직접 만나서 노래를 들려주고 싶어 했죠. 그래서 브렛은 1992년 11월, 자신의 집에서 만남을 주선했습니다. 바로 이 사진이 그때 세 사람과 브렛의 아들 스택의 모습입니다.
🧔🏼‍♀️ 사실 그날이 두 사람이 처음 만난 날이었어요. 리사가 마이클을 위해 노래를 몇 곡 불러줬죠. 정말 멋진 경험이었던 것 같아요. 두 사람 모두에게요.
🧔🏼‍♀️ 마이클은 정말 영광스럽게 생각했어요. 완전 ‘와, 나 진짜 운 좋다’ 이런 느낌이었죠. 알잖아요. 그리고 리사도 아마 같은 마음이었던 것 같아요.

the instrumentation of beautiful girl is so dreamy. the vocal layering is on another level. modulation over modulation. so soft, so touching. i can’t wrap my head around how insanely beautiful this song is. it’s such a shame that it didn’t make it onto invincible.
