sorry to say this, but your relationship with your fave is spiritual, their relationship with you is transactional. there will be times when it's best to put the parasocial attachment aside and clearly assess if the return of investment is worth it.
he’s selling a very expensive service & fans are paying customers. if their expectations aren’t met, they’re allowed to say so. he’s not obligated to cater to their wishes, fair enough, but that goes both ways: fans aren’t obligated to just put up with it either.
the point was earning a bunch of money, breaking records and remaining as comfortable as possible while doing so.
fans absorbed the financial burden of travel costs while also paying crazy prices for tickets. he wanted to maximise profit in every imaginable way and it worked🤷🏽♀️
I’m confused
What was the point of him doing the “residencies” and forcing fans to pay to come to him in only two cities if he was still going to travel to different places?
@myworldwithjan i feel the same. my excitement died when i saw the residency format & huge prices. and those 2027 dates? the ones that daunt him? most were booked before the first leg even got announced. between manipulative selling tactics & his lack of interest, it hasn't felt very enjoyable
i feel like so many fans can relate to this lately. ironically, an era built around “togetherness” seems to have left the fandom more divided than ever. it’s sad to watch, but the more people start clocking the shift, the harder it is to deny that something has changed
@grandepatel THANK YOU! i feel like every european fan magically forgot how first leg went? it took months for all wembley dates to sell out. resale market was insane, wayyy under fv, so much that fans were asking for FREE tickets on here. ofc he needed to do something about the second leg
because he wouldn't have sold a lot of tickets without that email. posts about second leg went from max 2k likes to over 10k, not to mention several news outlets reporting that he might retire. he wants cause panic & get attention to boost sales, that's all.
i was planning on doing resale for 2027 but since the entire general public knows harry is about go on hiatus the prices are going skyrocket JUST like ariana's recent tour..this is getting ridiculous. why didn't harry send the goodbye email AFTER ticket sales ????????
@bribrisimps strong agree. i bought tickets that were way too expensive, regretted it & won’t do it again. you can’t fight a system while funding it. i hope more people do the same, but they have to overcome parasocial attachment so they can see the system for what it is
yeah but i do have more empathy for the spender in this scenario because buying expensive concert tickets is rarely a rational choice. criticising fans' emotional vulnerability in a scenario that wouldn't have existed without the artist's greed feels off.
listen i agree that dynamic pricing is a predatory and cruel capitalistic practice but at the end of the day no one forced you to put your CCV in for that $700 lower bowl ticket that’s on you friend
@mariahkareh yesss! i feel like some of his choices this era also pulled people apart. funny how this was meant to be about togetherness and it turned into the opposite😭 distancing yourself is the ultimately healthiest choice, no point in being a fan if it's not enjoyable
@bribrisimps oh i agree! avoiding the same mistake starts with acknowledging your part in it. but so many people (not you) shame fans for overspending instead of the artist for charging too much. by all means, encourage smarter spending, but let’s not forget who set that system up haha
i genuinely think that they prefer to cause panic because it doesn't give people the space and time to fully assess if spending so much on tickets & planning a whole trip around them is justifiable or not. impulsive purchases more likely to happen under pressure
i also wish artists would stop normalizing dropping entire tours and the sale being done one week in advanced notice. in this economy bffr yall people have to save up to have any kind of fun now days
@StefSWriter that's how i see it tbh. and it's been really quiet for me too. also none of my friends are into him & they've genuinely heard nothing about this tour/ era. i feel like sales heavily relied on die hard fans so far, so enabling them would make the most sense
@mariahkareh yeah i feel the same. i also used to be a fan but this era made me take a huuuge step back, especially after spending way more than i should've to go see him. it made me question my priorities (and his, for that matter). i'd rather support an accessible artist🤷🏽♀️
@mariahkareh thiiis!!! people get so emotionally involved with their faves that they forget how a big part of their public image is a brand. you can love someone’s work & still admit that some “personal” gestures are strategic, not everything is a love letter to the fans.
😂😂 you know what my favourite part is? he didn't randomly add dates, everything got booked at once. i saw posts about 2027 residencies in Rome, Berlin and Paris before first leg even got announced. makes the entire thing even funnier
worse than last time. i can only speak for Europe but so many people panic bought and lost money reselling. if everyone waits then there won't even be a resale market to look at lol. just a bunch of unsold tickets & people waiting for a deal. smart move but at what cost
And if I say that mail is such a perfect marketing move??? Like people start to panic that he won't come back -> ticket sales will go well because no one wants to miss out seeing Harry "one last time" -> without this it might be possible that ticket sale is going similar as last
@Tina27271 well it's the only venue he played in the US (and he skipped Canada). there's no certainty that all the fans who travelled to see him now will have the motivation to do that again, it's a pricey activity. promoting a narrative that recreates FOMO isn't far-fetched in this context
y'all need to learn how to take things with a grain of salt, especially when you engage with announcements that involve a 'call to action' (such as selling a product or service). pop culture is a business that sadly relies on converting emotional investment into money.
i'm happy fan culture has changed & celebrities are not dehumanised the way they were 15-20 yrs ago but pls keep in mind that there's a massive brand component to everything you see. nothing is intentionally publicised without curation and intent.
