Children's Healthcare of Atlanta says it currently has 118 children in its hospitals due to COVID. Two weeks ago, there were 22. https://t.co/1GbmEx4mdG
I'm a numbers guy. So here's some numbers for you:
- 174,000 people (including 2,465 US soldiers) died during 20 years of war in Afghanistan
- 640,478 Americans have died so far during a year and a half of covid
Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa released this powerful video showing a patient with COVID-19 receiving care at the hospital, through a patient’s eyes.
@amyliz_76 @AmberSchmidtke It breaks mine too. It was his last year there too. We are lucky to do private virtual school but my heart breaks for those not afforded the same opportunity. We shouldn’t have to choose between safety and education.
@amyliz_76 @AmberSchmidtke I don’t know. We withdrew him from middle school this week. He’s so scared he’s going to bring it to his little brother it was causing him panic attacks. Optional mask policies don’t protect anyone.
@amyliz_76 @AmberSchmidtke The fact that this is the mitigation strategy a month after Delta is tearing through the schools tells you a lot. Orange should have been day 1. Not day 30.
@amyliz_76 @AmberSchmidtke It’s awful. My kid is scared to go to school, scared to bring it home to us and his brother. He shouldn’t have to carry such a heavy weight on his shoulders so he can be in a classroom.
@amyliz_76 @AmberSchmidtke Let’s hope they are better about masks than we are. It’s so disheartening to see how this is unfolding when we had so much warning.
@amyliz_76 @AmberSchmidtke It’s already a nightmare. Paulding County GA’s own reporting has the district with nearly 700 cases in 1.5 weeks of school (as of the morning of 8/19) out of 28,597 students attending in person. It will only get worse from here.
@amyliz_76 We got 5 letters home about cases. 2 the first week. 3 this week and a close contact notice last night. My kid is one of 4 wearing a mask in his grade in Paulding. Now we have to worry that our too young to be vaxxed kiddo at home will get it it. We are terrified. This is not ok
@amyliz_76 @teachcardona@POTUS If you did the virtual option, you can’t opt out or refuse milestones. It’s one of the reasons I chose so withdraw rather than do virtual. Without canceling milestones entirely, it still puts kids in schools with the risk of exposure. My district doesn’t require masks either.
