I had a fight with my boyfriend. Not because of cheating. Not because of lies. Not because of drama. Because I asked him to get tested for HIV, hepatitis, syphilis, and STIs before we had sex.
We’d been together for a year. I loved him. I trusted him. And to make it fair, to make it gentle, to make it about us, I told him I’d get tested too. For our peace of mind. For our future.
He refused. He said I had “trust issues.” He said it was about “principle.” He said if I really loved him, I wouldn’t ask.

I wasn’t accusing him of anything. I was choosing responsibility.
