With a view to ensuring effective implementation of the State’s Artificial Intelligence Policy, a joint meeting of officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the Department of Electronics, Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence was held today at the Sahyadri Guest House.

During this meeting, the BMC presented how Artificial Intelligence is currently being utilized in its day-to-day operations. The presentation highlighted that AI is being used to enhance transparency in drain-cleaning activities and to bring greater efficiency and accountability to civic services. The Corporation also informed that citizen grievances are being collected at ward offices through AI-powered chatbot system.

After reviewing the presentation, the following directives were issued to the concerned officials:
•Implement an AI-based monitoring system for desilting work to ensure real-time tracking of progress, status and quality of execution.
•Strengthen the system of collecting citizen complaints through AI chatbots and routing them immediately to the concerned departments. Develop an AI-based mechanism wherein a citizen’s complaint is video-recorded and directly transmitted to the relevant department for prompt action.
•Replicate the ‘e-file’ and ‘e-signature’ system effectively implemented in the State Secretariat under the guidance of Hon’ble Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Ji, and adopt it within the BMC to move towards a paperless administration.
•Digitize all administrative processes to ensure seamless implementation of paperless governance.
•Enhance transparency in the BMC’s tendering process through the use of AI and make all relevant information accessible to citizens. Use AI to monitor ‘variations’ in tenders and analyze the validity, necessity and effectiveness of such decisions.
•Ensure that clear and accessible information regarding all projects, works and their variations is made available to citizens using AI tools. All departments should leverage AI-based data analytics to make decision-making more accurate and effective.
•Develop an AI-based alert and tracking systems to ensure prompt action on all received complaints.

The meeting was attended by BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide, MahaIT Director Sanjay Katkar, Director of the Information Technology Department Bhuvaneshwari and other concerned municipal officials.
