Sprint legend Usain Bolt shared footage of himself distributing relief supplies to communities affected by Hurricane Melissa before visiting his storm-hit alma mater, William Knibb Memorial High School.

In his message on X, Bolt reassured the nation: “We are standing together, rebuilding together… Jamaicans never leave each other behind.” He added, “We’ve faced many storms before, and every single time, we rise again — stronger, united and full of faith.”

Islandwide, 151 roads have been reported affected, with 134 still blocked. 11 have been fully cleared, 41 have partial or single-lane access, and work is ongoing on 82 roads.

This update comes from Hon. Robert Morgan, Minister without Portfolio with responsibility for Works, during today’s (October 30) press briefing. He noted that teams from the National Works Agency (NWA) are working around the clock to clear debris, repair damages, and prioritise the most critical routes. Motorists are reminded to exercise caution on affected roads and follow official updates.

I have just completed an aerial tour and a walk-through of the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston Jamaica. Pleased to update the public that The Palisadoes Strip shows no issues or damage.

Over 881 shelters are on standby in the event of Jamaica being impacted by Tropical Storm Melissa.

Director General of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), Richard Thompson, gave this update at a Special Press Briefing earlier today (October 24).

He highlighted that shelter management is among the critical preparedness actions that the agency is emphasising to facilitate full disaster readiness.
