@YuvalKordov Not a female protag but the series that really got me loving fantasy as a kid was Deltora Quest by Emily Rodda. Lots of cool puzzles you can try to work out before the MCs and a cool world and story. Highly recommend, I read them ages 8-12 so she's in the perfect age group.

Publishers pick books they think will sell. Things they believe are marketable. And that doesn't always mean quality.

@ParanormalJunk2 My best day was 21k and that was about 14 hours with a few breaks but I basically did nothing else and still only managed 21k. I highly doubt 100k is possible, that's 5 times a day I have never been able to replicate no matter how hard I try. My n3xt best day was 12k.

A sapphic P&P retelling has been on my project list for years (which is why I've thought about the themes so much). But I'm terrified of not doing the idea justice so I've only dabbled. Nice to know another one exists with a yikes on it 😆

@margaret_adelle I concede to this point but I don't think it has to match entirely the same stakes for it be a successful retelling, as this wasn't the only theme of the novel and certainly not the central theme of L&D's romance which is the main draw

@margaret_adelle And yes Lydia's entire story becomes defunct in a modern setting but she's an interesting character and other stories can be made around her

@margaret_adelle I think as long as a majority of the central themes and characters are there it counts as a retelling. Imo part of "retelling" is adjusting to suit the new era and circumstances. The marriage theme automatically goes once it's modern, but that isn't the only theme of P&P
