@Jonesy2x4 I think the framework where the Hawks do it is they give up the guys they’re okay moving (JK, Risa, Kispert) and 23 (worth it to get off Kispert alone) and the Bucks/Pels pick next year. I don’t think they’re willing to pay much more than that to take on JB and his contract.
It’s interesting that Jaylen Brown had less estimated wins than Dyson or NAW. He played a handful fewer games, but still not what you’d expect given the MVP shouts. My read is there’s a price where the Hawks would take him, but they won’t pay a lot (i.e., they won’t give #8).
@Jonesy2x4 He should be the fifth guy off the board IMO. It was a weird college season due to the back issue but the projection is really sound. He looked a little like Dame in his big games. With his size athleticism dynamic shooting and passing think he’s the best star bet outside top 4.
Starting to move towards DP over Boozer at 1 late in the game. The whole weirdness with the injury muddies the waters a bit but this is a staggering, rarely seen scoring bag and will be exceptionally difficult to contain in a playoff setting.
@freewave3 For me he’s one of the most offensively polished freshman guards I can remember. I think we could be reaching a bottom in terms of how we value guards. The playoffs have shown a lot of half court struggles. Maybe he’s a -2 on D but if he’s a +5 on O… I like him more for BRK.
@ndycarrier Yeah I agree with all of that and think they’ll be in on him. Someone like Mikel is a better upside bet but Quin could lose patience with the TOs.
Building on this, I think it’s a point in favor of Brayden Burries, who weighed at 215 lbs. Jack of all trades, master of none guards have burned me before but the physical baseline you get with him is appealing in the playoffs. Especially for a team like ATL trying to win now.
@Jonesy2x4 I’ve been going back and forth with him but I’m encouraged by how successful he was doing things the Hawks do. If their thought process is more along the lines of finding a CJ replacement he’s the obvious answer.
@HawksDraftNerd Like Veesar fit more. Jock was just a key player for them and even if Veesar has a similar outcome that would be a good grab in that range.
Like Veesaar as a target at 23. Hawks pretty clearly value shooting 5s highly. They tried a shooting big rotation of KP and Okongwu, it didn’t work out, then acquired another shooting 5 in Jock. Having that shooter helps with their 4 ball handler attack and the Dyson/JJ spacing.
My main takeaway from Kingston’s underwhelming measurements is it solidifies him as a one position defender. I’m still confident projecting him as a + on D. His top goal will be adding mass over his rookie deal. The anthro concerns could work in ATL’s favor by sliding him to 8.
Looking at the trove of picks the Griz possess, it puts into perspective how important it is to sell early. The Hawks by contrast waited too long to sell their key guys and didn’t get value. Once consensus forms that you should move a player it’s usually too late.
@THEYLOVELLK He’s pretty polarizing. I’m a big believer in his shooting and creation for others. Has good size and I don’t think he’ll kill on you defense. I like how he could fit with Jalen and Dyson. Riskier than someone like Kingston but has more upside IMO.
