AI is built on humanity’s collective knowledge.
The wealth it generates must benefit humanity — not just Elon Musk, Sam Altman and other AI oligarchs.
That’s why I’ll be introducing the American AI Sovereign Wealth Fund Act — to give the public a direct ownership stake.
This is extremely important: civilization was enabled by a 6C spike in temperature above the glacial norm of the last 2 million years. It’s a “Goldilocks” temperature where much hotter or colder makes civilization impossible. At 1.5C hotter, civilization could fail.
Yeah, seriously. Why is this still a question? xAI is obviously improving at the most rapid rate of any one, but of course, still behind because they started the latest. It's hilarious how much difficulty people have thinking about growth rates. This reminds me of when people would criticize Tesla for how few cars they made 😂
TBH I'm already so deep in OpenClaw, Codex, and Claude and I know the models won't be as good. I love the mission behind Grok and believe it will one day be SOTA and I'm sure Grok Build will be great, but frankly xAI was just behind the 8-ball on harnesses. Probably should have acqui-hired @steipete or just invested heavily in OpenClaw despite the OpenAI connection. If Grok Build had tight integration with OpenClaw I'd try it in an instant, though I suspect I would still be disappointed in the performance of the models. Again, I have high hopes for Grok and hope to invest in the SpaceX IPO, just being honest about the current state.
If we learned anything from Tesla it's that people are still dramatically undervaluing vertical integration. They are looking at xAI as if it's a model company like Anthropic or OpenAI. Well, that's like saying Tesla is a battery company. Yes, Anthropic and OpenAI have to have the best models because THAT'S ALL THEY DO. Grok is the AI brain within a vertically AND HORIZONTALLY (e.g. Tesla) integrated behemoth. It's like criticizing Tesla for not having the "best" batteries. What does that even mean? What matters is whether they are increasing abundance by DRAMATICALLY reducing the cost of some product or service to consumers and to achieve that you need vertical integration and scale.
At some point @sama and @elonmusk should take a step back and realize that they've already won. They started OpenAI to ensure that Google didn't have a monopoly on AI and they've done that. OpenAI, Anthropic, and xAI all came out of the initial effort and all at least claim to be for the benefit of humanity. That's huge!
Today, we share a breakthrough on the planar unit distance problem, a famous open question first posed by Paul Erdős in 1946.
For nearly 80 years, mathematicians believed the best possible solutions looked roughly like square grids.
An OpenAI model has now disproved that belief, discovering an entirely new family of constructions that performs better.
This marks the first time AI has autonomously solved a prominent open problem central to a field of mathematics.
This is important. People think the Nobel Prize in Economics is politically impartial. In fact it isn’t, and it isn’t even a Nobel Prize. It was invented by the Swedish Central Bank when it was fighting social democratic economic policies in Sweden.
Critics of neoclassical economics are equally excluded. It’s a tribal award.
