the writing allows the reader to get a real understanding of the broken English the narrator has and also the quote shows how she is constantly being criticized and awaits for the day she can be proudly accepted as Trinidadian.
#honglit My favorite thing about Vietgone is the language. It reveals so much in a very cool casual way. For instance on page 43 he says “Maaan, I don’t wanna be an immigrant. Immigrants talk funny. People are mean to immigrants.”
#honglit I loved that Dana basically is doing something that can potentially ruin or help her future. It really leaves you on edge trying to follow her as she tries to not only protect Rufus but herself as well.

#honglit It’s sad on how things played out in the end, in regards to Dana&Alice. Rufus really played with Alices mental health and pushed her to her limit, then he tried to rape Dana. He got what he deserved in the end,but it’s so heartbreaking what these women had to experience
