🇭🇳 Postdoc researcher @Unibonn's Institute for Food & Resource Economics working on trade, land-use, biodiversity and people | Fellow @IPBES #NexusAssessment
🇧🇷 heads to the polls tomorrow. What could these elections mean for 🌳🌴🌿 in Brazil?
We analyzed the effects of 6 different land-tenure regimes across regions over 30+ years of deforestation in Brazil and we found:🧵 (1/9)
Andrea Pacheco, #CLEVER researcher at the @UniBonn, was recently in Kathmandu, Nepal participating as an author of the upcoming Nexus Assessment of @IPBES, which synthesizes “the interlinkages among biodiversity, water, food, health, and climate” ➡ https://t.co/4G0cuT0Clx
Very excited to share our *new preprint* led by @SvenWunder1 reviewing biodiversity credits and lessons that need to be learned from other economic instruments for funding biodiversity conservation

We will all be more powerful and effective when female leaders are supported to be equitable participants in the diverse and holistic scientific organizations of the future, say @AlisonRBentley and @rach_garr https://t.co/JkzEs5AeLJ
The 1st paper of my research group is finally out in #EnergyPolicy! Here @pmacclay (@ZEFbonn) used data from 98 countries from 2000-2020 to analyze the effect of renewable energy (RE) auctions on countries' energy matrix. See the highlights in the 🧵👇1/5

Mainstream story in biodv conservation is there’s not enough funding, & we can’t expect much more from states so we must rapidly upscale private finance & hope it delivers effective conservation.
Our take: it’s not that simple.

How does international trade in #agricultural & #forest products affect #biodiversity?
#CLEVER investigates this question, particularly for animal feed, energy crops, tropical timber and aquacultures.

🚨 New pre-print! 🚨
I know lots of right-wing people in 🇧🇷 that would argue "Bolsonaro does say a lot of 💩 but that doesnt matter". Well, here we show that political discourse does matter and can have serious implications for the environment.
Are you interested in a 3 months research stay at ZEF? If you are a researcher in Latin America on topics regarding sustainability, environmental peace, and development and you have a Doctorate degree we wait for your application! 📤

Any suggestions for ag econ/technology journals that *actually* follow their pre-print policies?
V interesting paper (with a pre-print) needs to find good home without triggering a desk rejection... because of a pre-print 🙄
Has anyone ever had a paper desk-rejected because you have a preprint out, even though the journal guidelines clearly say that preprints are allowed and don't count as prior publication? Second time this happens with the same paper. Any suggestions on how to deal with this?
It is still time to apply (until 15th Feb) for the two 4-year PhD positions in Prague @fzpczu.
Remote sensing, biodiversity, macroecology & statistics. Fully ERC-funded, international team, great city. Starting on 1 Oct 2023. Details and instructions: https://t.co/Y3vUSDk25d
This paper is a first global attempt to see how well protected areas cover insect species. PAs do not adequately cover the 89K species in the study. And, we need more information on the occupancy of the 5.5 million species that are out there.
Graduating in conservation and want to leave academia?
Tough luck. Universities do a terrible job telling us about alternative careers.
Luckily, you don't rely on them.
Here are 6 resources that will help you find a job in conservation or sustainability 🧵 :
