#AHA23 day two started with a fantastic panel on #disabilityhistorysowhite. It’s exciting to see such a great turnout for amazing scholars like Jenifer Barclay @unwritten4427 and Kelsey Henry!
I attempted to ILL an 1855 commencement speech 4 months ago. I couldn’t find it digitized ANYWHERE and had given up on seeing it unless I drove to upstate New York and went to the archives. Today I got an email from ILL with a pdf of that document. Lordy, I love librarians.
Today started with an 8:30 am virtual conference presentation and ended at 8pm with a keynote by the incredible @drcooperowens. Somewhere in the middle I won a paper prize. Feeling grateful and inspired. Thank you to the GAAAH at University of Memphis for today💕
My toxic trait is drinking an entire pot of tea during the first half of class so by the second half I’m too over caffeinated to form a coherent though.
@zachary_turpin @lheltonian’s “On Decimals, Catalogs, and Racial Imaginaries of Reading”. Just read it for the second time for a class tonight and loved it even more this time!
Some on the list of signers is truly shocking. They seem to think that someone who is a good colleague/scholar is above reproach. The dean’s response to the letter is also telling. The signers don’t know all the facts. There is way more to the story than publicly known.
Relying to emails is especially time consuming right now because I have to think of a way to respond to the “how has your year been so far?” questions without lying or being excessively depressing
Being an academic in 2022: the excitement of getting your submission accepted for an in-person conference lasts about 30 seconds before you realize itll probably be cancelled and for good reason.
