Hi all! Given recent developments, I’m transitioning to @bluesky. Will keep this profile open for the moment, but I will try to use it less and less. You can find me here 👉 https://t.co/4TXrIiVkWl
Today, at the European Parliament,
we presented the report “State Trafficking – Expulsion and Sale of Migrants from #Tunisia to #Libya , an investigation that documents illegal deportations, violence, and the trafficking of human beings with the involvement and complicity of States.
The report is available here: https://t.co/QwF5e76RnE
I want to thank the researchers, activists, and above all, the brave witnesses who have made this work possible.
The situation is extremely serious. Italy and the European Union must take responsibility. Border externalization has direct and dramatic consequences: European governments cannot and must not pretend they do not know.
We demand that:
- Libya remain unequivocally designated as an unsafe country and that Tunisia also be officially recognized as such.
- An urgent humanitarian corridor be established to protect the 30 migrants whose testimonies form the basis of this report.
- Europe take concrete action to ensure legal and safe migration routes, putting an end to policies that expose thousands of people to violence and abuse.
It is time to stop funding this shame and take political responsibility to put an end to it.
⏳ Time is ticking! Join us on 11 of December for an event hosted by @EuroMedRights and @GreensEFA, focusing on #migration and partnerships with third countries.

In a case filed by my office, the @EUombudsman concludes today that @EU_Commision's refusal to disclose documents linked to the EU-Tunisia deal amounts to maladministration.
Further, the Ombudsman regrets the lack of a sense of urgency, as the request was pending for 12 months.
We have found maladministration in @EU_Commission handling of access to docs request related to the preparation of a meeting between its President and the Tunisian President.
None of the documents provided covered internal exchanges or exchanges with Member States.
🚨 The 4th issue of the #ExternalisationBulletin is out now!
This issue covers changes to deportation law and the effects of Frontex-led reintegration policies in The Gambia and Nigeria.
It also makes over 15 documents from EU institutions public: https://t.co/wS9MXwAzbL
La Cpi informa #Israele e la comunità internazionale che i palestinesi sono esseri umani.
E le reazioni indignate dicono un’altra cosa elementare: che se è vero che ancora il diritto esiste, i potenti non lo sopportano.

The Italian government has decided to classify as "secret" all public contracts for supply of services and materials regarding border control to countries with which Italy has agreements for the control of flows of migrants (e.g. Libya, Tunisia).
⚖️🏳️🌈The case of the decade landed before the EU’s highest court:
Last Tuesday (19 Nov), we joined 400+ people packed into a courtroom meant for 200 to witness history unfold. Here’s what went down: ⬇️
This is the best news in decades of ICC work! Kudos to the judges and the whole OTP for having managed to resist the unprecedented pressures. I think of the Gaza victims that we represent and that finally can see something concrete in the direction of justice

Ho parlato con @altreconomia di Gaza, crimini internazionali, Corte penale internazionale, doppi standard degli Stati, export di armi, etc. Hanno dato un titolo forte, "macerie", che spero non sia profetico (nel mio libro la domanda é aperta)

Looking forward to intervene tomorrow on behalf of @asgi_it at the @Europarl_EN about the legal issues migrants and asylum seekers face at land and sea borders, and in detention camps inside and outside the 🇪🇺. Not a particularly cheerful topic, but happy to see everyone there 👇
