The first paper of the Hector galaxy survey, to which I have had the pleasure of contributing, is on ArXiv!
Hector is on track to becoming the largest IFS Survey, when completed.
Check out the paper, describing the data processing & early science!

It is time to pick the newest "Astro Plot of the Week"!
Pick one:
- Plot from Ristea et al. (https://t.co/TS6d5qwtvA)
- Plot from Ye (2024) (https://t.co/9S3H2XbjU2)

What about this plot from "The circular velocity and halo mass functions of galaxies in the nearby Universe", Ristea et al. 2024, recently published in MNRAS
https://t.co/MLqK8WGLaL
5/5🧵
The halo mass range probed resolves 72% (Ω_M = 0.227±0.018) of the matter density in the nearby Universe.
Our best-fitting HMF integrated to zero mass results in a matter density parameter Ω_M = 0.306±0.018/19, consistent with the latest results of the Planck Collaboration.
4/5🧵
We combine our HMF data with measurements from Hi kinematics (@PengfeiLi0606 et al 2019) and group velocity dispersions (Driver et al 2022).
We constrain the functional form of the HMF for log(Mhalo) btwn 10.5 – 15.5, finding a good agreement with ΛCDM predictions.
#Breaking. Happens to us all, eventually, and galaxies are no exception.💫
Latest research by led by @ARC_ASTRO3D@USyd reports that age is the driving force in changing how stars move within galaxies. Read more at https://t.co/9Hw0ImRGbW

⭐️New paper⭐️
My paper on the Tully-Fisher relation is on ArXiv!
https://t.co/eCG078ezcX
🧵 1/3 We compute a compendium of TF relations for both stellar and gas rotation at different radii using the MaNGA Survey.
@astroquokka@amelia_fmc
🧵 3/3 The scatter in the stellar & gas TF relations does NOT correlate strongly with: optical morphology, SF properties, environment or signs of recent has accretion.
A. Ristea on kinematic misalignements betwe gas & stars in SAMI:
Misaligned sources are largely quenched. Also 60% are LINERs, 8% have outflows & 15% are obvious mergers (AR+22). Others may be due to accretion or post-mergers without lingering merger signatures

I'm in Poland for the 2023 @EAS_meeting - I'll be presenting my work tomorrow morinig in:
SS20a about stellar-gas kienmatic misalignments SS19c about the stellar/gas Tully-Fisher relation
Come chat with me if this sounds interesting. #EASKrakow2023
#EASKrakow2023 kicked off! Over 1500 astronomers gather this week in Kraków, Poland, to present and discuss the latest results in astronomy and space science.
@AndreiRistea3 presenting his cool new results at the @ARC_ASTRO3D#scimeet23. The scatter in the Tully Fisher relation correlates well with stellar kinematics (stars), and v/sigma (gas).
