@TrungTPhan If you’d spend the $10 and invest the rest in S&P 500 you’d end up with a fresh pair of kicks every year and a half and still have the $50 after 10 years or $70, if a pair lasts 2 years 😀
Now, imagine if a great story lets you double the mark up on a pair of sunglasses, how much premium you can capture with better functional utility AND non-tangible delight combined.
Imagine selling sunglasses. The functional utility is the same with any pair. Yet we all derive real value from buying a designer pair or something with a story and we’re all willing to pay 2x more than the cheapest pair that offers the same utility.
At @thefarmersdog it wasn’t just the food and the utility it provided. The customer experience and the aggregate value was something much bigger. From the first ad to the landing, through the checkout flow, the comms, the unboxing and the best-in-class customer support.
@KarthikS2206 Stakeholder management + project planning vs the aspirational “I’m the visionary CEO of this product domain”. I’ve seen this create a lot of frustration. Hard to be a visionary if there are a bunch above you while trying to ship the 3rd-party integration that Sales requested.
@gokulr This is a risk reduction lever. Making educated bets in hiring is a sensible strategy. Aiming for 100% conviction is not. Time Interviewing x Conviction has a diminishing rate of return. Unless you’re the hottest AI startup or a leader, candidates won’t put up with this.
In my clinical experience, most people struggle because their main motivations in life are to:
1) Feel good (addiction)
2) Avoid pain (avoidance)
3) Be right (ego)
Rather, I help people:
1) Be present (mindfulness)
2) Open up (willingness)
3) Do what matters (be effective)
Take the Money and Run. The artist was supposed to recreate a work of art. Instead, he chose to create a new one. “The work is that I have taken their money. It’s not theft. It is breach of contract, and breach of contract is part of the work.” https://t.co/Ri6yuIeulb
Recently, I've found myself increasingly saying, "Hey, just thinking out loud" in conversations. It takes away the shame of sharing half-baked ideas and opinions, and it gets the ball rolling while communicating that it's not something you actually believe or have conviction in.
@peeplaja Perhaps I understood you wrong. Tablets, smartwatches and wireless headphones were all a thing well before Apple released their’s. In all categories they managed to beat competition by building an incrementally better product and become the bestsellers.
