@SaffronOlive The truth is that carrot cake is really cinnamon cake, with just a light carrot flavour. Carrot cake is my favourite but I've never really thought it tasted all that much like carrots.
@mode7games Of course, but what impact? Positive (however you define it)? Negative? If first and second order effects are negative, and >third order effects are so complex as to be effectively a coin flip, why select that strategy over one that has positive first/second order effects?
@mode7games Of course you can set an artificial price floor. It will have the same effect as it would have on anything else. The primary effect is that lower-quality goods/services (in this market, = lower-skilled workers) will be wasted (= unemployed). The same principles apply regardless.
@JoINrbs@rustycabbbage The "Paradox of tolerance" is not a real paradox. It's something intolerant people use to justify intolerance. The only way to fight intolerance *is* with tolerance.
@followgrubby The RTS genre has drifted away from what most hardcore RTS fans want. We're still playing 20+ year old RTSs like Brood War, AoE2, Warcraft 3. New RTS games are very unlikely to go back to that style, so there's not much excitement for them.
@theremin_wooooo @mattcolville If you compare a whole decade, it's more obvious. You compare the 2010s to the 80s, 90s or 00s and it's a pretty stark drop in quantity and quality.
@alexalder_@TheHermitDruid The car trip is only 5 times faster than walking. I'm guessing the issue is that the city is designed for walking not driving, and that's why driving is so slow.
@JoINrbs Capitalism isn't stopping this. Under capitalism, you can join together with whomever you want and give your money to artists to make art in this way.
@OnlineIRL_@casnorf@PleasantKenobi Making the correct play each time is actually incredibly difficult in most games of Magic, and I don't think there's anyone in the world who does that with any regularity. You lose far more games than you think because of your own mistakes, but blaming RNG is easier on the ego.
@budsan_@SebAaltonen There's never been a game worth $60 on mobile. There haven't really been games worth $6, to be honest.
Release something like Zelda: Link to the Past or Pokemon Red/Blue on mobile and I'll gladly pay $60.
@joshuadotworks@mattcolville I don't like hiding this kind of information. In the world these characters live in, they would have access to all kinds of information that the DM cannot feasibly convey at the table, and telling players the actual hit points (and DC values) goes a long way to bridging that gap.
@MisterMyztik@AphelionPOE Of course. People want the benefits without putting in the effort. Not just in PoE, in everything. We want things to be easy. Turning on the cheat codes is loads of fun in the short term, but the terrible is without the struggle there's no meaning.
@mode7games Not really weird. Gamers from the 90s/00s were used to being the majority of the market, and whilst they are still vocal on the internet, they form a completely inconsequential part of the market and spending is totally dominated by new live-service aficionados.
@brownbear_47 Yes. Having armies require player attention to move most efficiently is a great design decision. The most fun part of an RTS is controlling your units, but most modern RTS games automate much of that away with hyper-efficient pathfinding.
@JennyENicholson One of biggest skills in writing is elegantly working those in-text reasons into the story so that when the cool moment happens the audience's brains can think "this is cool" instead of "this doesn't make sense". TLJ clearly failed at this since so many still had questions.
