@bigblackjacobin If you want to mix in less of a big city feel, Litang (west of Chengdu) has a lot of Tibetan culture, super nice people, and chatty monks. Bit of a pain to get to though.

@embot It's not even the first time he's shut down a book review operation! He hired a bunch of writers and editors in the '90s to run original reviews on Amazon, but changed his mind a couple years down the line and laid off most of them. (As detailed in @jamesamarcus's great book.)
