Slinger Francisco, ORTT, CM, OBE, known to the world as The Mighty Sparrow, was a true Caribbean music icon and legend.

Growing up, I enjoyed his music, humour and sharp social commentary. His songs became part of the soundtrack of Caribbean life and culture, beloved by generations of Jamaicans and people across the region.

I extend my condolences to his family, the people of Trinidad and Tobago, and the people of Grenada, where he was born.
