📣 🚨 The Government has agreed there is a need to bring together key stakeholders to strengthen the UK's long-term wildfire resilience, following representations from the Fire Brigades Union.

After the FBU called for a National Wildfire Summit and made continued representations to the Government, it has confirmed that the right people should be convened to reflect on this year's wildfire season and consider priorities for improving long-term resilience.

As firefighters continue to respond to increasingly frequent and severe wildfires, the FBU will work to ensure their voices are central to shaping the future of the fire and rescue service's response.

Steve Wright, Fire Brigades Union General Secretary, said:
"This is an important step forward. Firefighters have earned the right to be at the table as decisions are made about the future of wildfire resilience. Every summer our members are facing larger, longer and more dangerous incidents, yet too many fire and rescue services remain under-resourced after years of cuts. We welcome the Government's commitment to bring key partners together and look forward to working constructively to ensure this delivers meaningful action, investment and the resources firefighters need to protect our communities."

The FBU will continue pressing for the staffing, investment, equipment and national coordination needed to meet the growing risks posed by wildfires and the climate crisis.
