let me make my stance more clear: when you have as much influence as pokimane, bringing this up and saying “i’m not trying to get anyone cancelled” seems irresponsible when you know your parasocial fanbase will attack and harass a guy who has done everything he can to make things right. your discomfort with him is completely valid, but bringing this up again three years later (likely because of not being invited to a wedding), knowing how your fans might react, seems extremely immature. even if harassment wasn’t your intent, failing to consider that outcome shows a lack of responsibility given the influence you have over your fanbase.
and to add: why bring this up again now? if it has nothing to do with not being invited to the wedding, what prompted it, and what more do you want to happen? he’s tried to stay in his own circle and has already withdrawn from future events to keep things as peaceful as possible. what else are you expecting him to do?
hi pokimane, i want to clarify some things about how i feel about you.
1) when you were first caught saying the n-word on stream, it seems people tend to forget that the word you used targets people like me. unfortunately, i have remained black in the years since, so this is still relevant to me.
2) i understand you may have apologized and grown as a person, promoting ideas against racist ideologies. however, acknowledging anything that happened afterward would interfere with my commitment to judging you exclusively by that clip from 2013.
3) i’m not trying to cancel anyone or be the arbiter of who can do what. i’m simply wondering why everyone is comfortable collaborating with you when nobody has personally checked in with me, a black man, about the situation.
hypothetically, if a black person invited you to their wedding and didn’t invite me, i would obviously respect their decision. right after publishing a lengthy statement about how deeply concerning it is that everyone has become comfortable associating with you. the missing invitation would be completely unrelated, of course.
heres my point: You don’t have to personally forgive him, but he shouldn’t have to spend the rest of his life auditioning for permission to be a person again. I wouldn’t hold that old clip over you forever, either. I know you are a smart and more or less understanding person so it is disappointing to see you bring this up.
@pokimanelol the amount of people replying not understanding that this is to draw a comparison to get across how outlandish this looks and instead seeing this as me genuinely upset that she used the n-word is wild
