- is a strange thing to do. its deeply eurocentric and colonial. none of this is to say the genre is bad, or that it lacks impressive works, but this mindset very much irks me to see.
i always see non-music lovers hail classical music as some sort of highly intellectual, superior form of the art. it's always been odd to me as i see it rather as a kind of 'proto-music'. it came to be before the west really had a grasp of what makes music particularly good-
- or compelling. it has the benchmarks of other forms of art, it has always felt more like writing. a play or a novel with acts. this of course, has its merit, but to hold a genre such as it as the pinnacle of music when it does not lean into what makes music as an art unique-
