Take leap back in time:
We are in the 1950s, and the United States, riding the wave of popular concern over nuclear tests due to the radiation that these tests could release into the atmosphere, begins to carry out atomic tests under the Earth's surface.

Astrophysicist Brown-lee designed the tests called
PASCAL-A and B conducted in the summer of 1957, designed to contain nuclear fallout by placing the bomb in a hole dug into the ground 147 meters deep and 1 meter wide, topped by a steel plate weighing 900 kg.

Assuming that the high pressures generated by the detonation blew the metal cover off, they positioned a high-sensitivity camera in order to immortalize the moment and be able to verify exactly what happened to the plate.

When the device exploded, the cover was immortalized only in the first frame and then disappeared. From the investigation of the pressure data, Dr. Brownlee estimated that the manhole cover left the ground at more than 60 kilometers per second, more than 5 times the escape velocity from our planet.

Possibly given the escape velocity, assuming that it did not sublimate due to friction with the outgoing atmosphere, the manhole cover is currently traveling in deep space beyond the orbit of Pluto (reached in 1961), well beyond where man with the Voyager probes has ever gone.

Now l'm sure you'll have one more reason to smile when you look at the sky and think that somewhere out there a manhole cover launched by an atomic bomb is travelling at over 200,000 km per hour.
