I personally know four Canadian doctors who now work happily in the States due in part to this shortage of residency positions. The doctor shortage is essentially manufactured. Thousands of Canadians study medicine out of country because there’s not enough spots in Canadian medical schools, and then they’re unable to get Canadian residency positions in part because Canadian medical schools are allowed to let in as many foreign trainees as they want - many of whom leave Canada after their residency. What is it about putting Canada first that is so hard to grasp by our leaders?
