@Oldpost185862@BBCBreakfast Ah but ask yourself why the price of electricity is so much more than gas. A few policy tweaks could reverse that and incentivise electricity over gas for heating. Will be needed in the near future. Gas suppliers are making obscene profits at the moment at the expense of consumet
@DerekTighe1@implausibleblog@carla_denyer It’s a good point, except it ignores the fact that China has installed more wind and solar than rest of world in the last 3 years; Biden has invested massively in renewables; and the West long ago ditched manufacturing in favour of cheap Chinese goods.
@Jdd535@bbcquestiontime Surely renewables are part of relying on ourselves? No european gas price to worry about. In practice the big electricity interconnections between UK and Europe mean we can more easily balance a renewable heavy grid.
@Elytsyggod@bbcquestiontime More renewable energy in Germany this year than ever before. They temporarily went back to coal after the Russians shut off supply.

@Jdd535@bbcquestiontime China installed more solar and wind in 2023 than all other countries put together. They have installed more this year. They also burn lots of coal because we outsourced all our manufacturing to them. We just love our Chinese consumer goods.
@alexhallhall Surely a key message from the US, is that when working people feel worse off now than they were 5-10 years ago they vote for populist right. We need to focus on making working people actually better off. Cutting back on social expenditure to pay down debt isn’t going to cut it

Tory leadership hopeful...🫠
In just 3 months the 20mph change saw:
Total number of casualties down 26%.
Number killed/seriously injured fall 23% .
Those killed fall 55% .
Slight injuries down 27%.
Other benefits appear to include delays in meeting James Cleverly.
The fossil fuel industry continues to pocket massive profits and subsidies.
Meanwhile, everyday people bear the costs of climate catastrophe – from rising insurance premiums to lost livelihoods.
Those who shoulder the blame must foot the bill.

@vassguardian @BryonTRussell @SuperGracchiBro @JKSteinberger Only until you look at who is consuming the energy and resources. What % of energy is consumed by whom and where?
