First WC I truly remember was 1982, back then, the Brazil team was full of players who I’d never get to see, based in Brazil
Now they play for Arsenal, Bournemouth etc & play same style as everyone else
This week I came across the obituary of a photographer named David Plowden. I was unfamiliar with his work, but decided to browse his website after reading that he specialized in photos of trains and industry.

In 1541, John Calvin, a Swiss Protestant Reformer banned all jewelry as frivolous & sinful displays of vanity. This left Swiss jewelers, goldsmith’s & craftsmen jobless, so they all shifted their skills to making watches, which were exempted from the ban because they were considered time-keeping devices , & not jewelry. And that is how the Swiss became the best watchmakers in the world
