She was 15 years old! She was groomed by a terrorist organisation. She was a minor who was sex trafficked by an evil fanatical cult ISIS. She should face justice in the UK where she was born. And yes if you’ve lost children you are still a mother. #ShamimaBegum
@rsutcliff @PeteOlusoga or that the sense of weird, communal belonging these riots have brought to some was a factor but fairness demands that these things be said.
Apologies for long thread.
@rsutcliff @PeteOlusoga My view, FWIW, is that it is for the greater good that I represent these people however much i deplore their behaviour. That might mean I can say nothing other than s/he was caught up in the sugar rush of excitement these riots have brought,
@DalrympleWill@btselem I’m sure you will have read the late Dervla Murphy’s Between River and Sea. She was very concerned about the state of Israeli society
@JamieBrysonCPNI Not sure where you’re from pal but this is a highly valued part of our city with excellent food and community relations.
We also have the second largest China town in the UK, and the Gay Village.
We are a famously left-wing bunch and we reject your bigotry
@BarristersHorse Finally, if anything is causing an escalation it is the mealy-mouthed refusal to accept that these individuals cannot be pacified and that there has been deliberate incitement by their enablers.
@BarristersHorse It is easy to say, as you do, tone down the rhetoric. But the rioters and their enablers have shown who they are. They engender fear deliberately to terrorise their intended victims. You call them what you want but I’ll stick with fascist.
@BarristersHorse The point of my response is simply this: it is easy to dismiss the fear, panic and worry of these events if you are not close to the events or to people who are at risk or have suffered because of racist behaviour.
