Last night, friends from the birdapp reached out to us, asking us to publish a layoff guide for their coworkers.
It is written thoughtfully and with great care. If you work at the company, we encourage you to take a look.

Assuming all 294,000 verified users pay $8/month that’s covers roughly 10% of twitters annual losses. Lots of coverage over something pretty immaterial. What are the real plans to right the ship? I assume fire lots of people since that is all any boss can do on their own.
It’s not just IC stuff that may be effected. Almost every manager I know has only known the abundance era. Sadly those who are old enough to know something else are senior execs who all learned management at Microsoft under Balmer.
I’ve been thinking ‘software engineering in an age of scarcity’. Something Silicon Valley companies haven’t known in a generation. Companies like Facebook Uber Airbnb etc have only known growth at multi-year time frame. they mostly sailed through the Great Recession unscathed
But what’s the era of scarcity equivalent to agile, k8s and react? Most of the alternatives are still products of abundance & ego. What else do we rely on that is only sustainable if your organization plans to double headcount next year?
@graue I spent a good number of hours over the weekend trying to find a sizable topo map of SF but most of them split into north and south. Have you found any good sources? Otherwise I’m going to make one and find a printer.
@tmcw Ironic given that Feynman’s career led him be popularizing the idea that those people are are the primary inhibitors of innovation and are actively destructive forces in the world.
@emilymhorsman I'm still convinced Martin Fowler, Steve Yegge and/or Dan Luu have written a blog post about this but I wasn't able to find one. You may have better luck than me searching their blogs.
@emilymhorsman I hoped someone would have an answer 😿. I did way more searching on this than expected without much success. The best i've found so far is the origin section from wiki. In-short, it's easier to test. https://t.co/LION4S1t0W
Three @MWU organizers who were illegally fired by @Mapbox in retaliation for union organizing have reached a settlement that we collectively agreed was favorable for workers. The NLRB investigated our case and charged Mapbox with violating labor law. https://t.co/NGaefSxneX
