Expect fouls. Lots of them.

Last week’s Old Firm saw 26 fouls with Rangers committing 12 and Celtic 14.

Celtic also committed 18 fouls and won 14 in their Europa League tie against Ferencvaros in midweek.

Rangers are 2nd for most fouls in the Premiership, averaging 13 per game. They also win the third most at 13.8 per game.

When playing away this season their fouls committed numbers read: 14, 15, 13, 15, 17.

It’s difficult to use data from previous seasons because of the huge changes at both clubs, Rangers in particular. But here are the foul numbers from last season’s Old Firm matches:

10th May: 38
1st March: 20
3rd Jan: 26
2nd Nov: 30
31st Aug: 34

The referee for this one is none other than John Beaton, who infamously gave Celtic that dodgy penalty for the Motherwell handball near the end of last season.

He’s averaging 23.75 fouls and 4.75 yellows per game across his four Scottish Premiership matches so far this season.

Interestingly, this is the first time he’s refereed either of the Old Firm this season.

I’m going to share a fouls-specific bet once the lineups are out, but here are a few to keep an eye on:

• Dan Neil to commit and win foul(s)
• Dujon Sterling to commit and win foul(s)
• Colby Donovan to commit foul(s)
• Camilo Duran to win foul(s)

There are some obvious ones too, but the odds are shite. Gassama to win fouls is one example.
