“There is no way that I am going to allow behaviour of that ilk to take root in our stadium without challenging it, either in this forum or in person in the Roker End,” writes Mike Stubbs.

There’s so much talk about the Premier League’s current use of set pieces and the football being “poorer” for it but I don’t buy into that view at all.
You’ve got a superbly coached Bournemouth team under Andoni Iraola sitting 2nd having scored 16 in 9, all 3 promoted sides adapting well to the top flight despite plenty suggesting the gap between the Championship and PL was becoming impossible to manage in recent seasons; one of that trio in Sunderland are up in 4th with only 2 defeats in their first 9 games.
Three established Prem sides are sat in the relegation zone with two wins between them, one of which came when two of that trio played each other back in August.
I would suggest the Premier League isn’t a poor league at all, it’s just much more competitive this year than so many have grown used to over the last 5-6 campaigns. No one feels truly safe (perhaps Arsenal aside) and they seem to be getting pelters for working out a way of being defensively sound and establishing a four point lead at the top because of it.
Tactics change, styles shift, coaches and managers are always on the hunt for those tiny gains which can win you games, at the moment it’s corners and long throws, for years, possession football was the “thing”, so much so that people got annoyed at lower league teams trying to do the same and coming up short. It’s football, it’s always in a state of flux.

🚨 Sunderland fans - I sat down with the colossus Nordi Mukiele today for the Premier League - and asked him what he was thinking in this picture staring at the Sunderland fans after the incredible late win over Chelsea:
🗣️ “In that photo - I’ll tell you the truth. I knew the fans here weren’t happy for a long time about what was happening at the club.
“So I was thinking about what they must be feeling now - winning at Stamford Bridge against an historic club like Chelsea - and it made me really happy.
“Sunderland is a city where a lot of people love football so to see them like this is very beautiful.” #SAFC
