Blast from the past
Minivan Bahus
@ Giyaasudheen
2004
Before MDP was registered in Raajje! But declared in exile in Sri Lanka.
Minivan Bahus was a major venue Dhivehin found their voices, started expressing their views….
and breaking away from the fear felt during those days.
We have come a long way!
Work of MANY individuals… not just those who stayed aligned to MDP!
All peoples who wanted a change partook!
Still working… many Dhivehin…
to attain what we want for Raajje ❤️
Submitted case to High Court challenging requirement to pay 25% to #MIRA to challenge their ridiculous tax assessment practices.
Its unconstitutional and amounts to coercion.

I hope HPA/government is keeping taps on EbolA situation. With the coinciding of the Hajj pilgrimage I hope the authorities are mindful of possible exposure of Maldivian pilgrims and tourist arrivals subsequently.
@HucenHassan has consistently stood at the forefront of fighting for our right to freedom of media and expression. He has remained fearless in leading the protests, and despite the police repeatedly targeting Hussain, I have no doubt they will never break his spirit.
Free Hussain now.
My understanding is that it was supported by PNC then. PNC didn’t question the legality of allocation of land, Were any objections raised by PNC in 2023? Please be kind enough to explain. Is the present administration not doing the same thing right now?
Zero tariff is definitely better than before, but for those who are expecting a windfall out of this development, my advice - temper your expectations.
What happened? UK has zeroed all tuna imports from all countries in the world, on a temporary basis.
Why? UK internal policy, create more price competitive UK products that use imports (eg: tuna).
To be clear, this has nothing to do with Maldives or Maldives government. Recall that @MMuizzu@GovernmentMv had very early deliberately tanked the MV/UK FTA discussion, having it even removed from the agenda.
The MV/UK FTA would have given Maldives a preferential advantage over other competitors such as Thailand. But now all preferential advantages has been lost. We will compete with Thailand and other similar countries, same as before. Their mass produced tuna exports, unlike our sustainably caught tuna, also get zero tariff from UK.
Some early statements indirectly conveyed a Maldives targeted tariff reduction - please know that that is completely false. No such thing.
This is not a big win. Maybe not even a win - time will tell.
Big international producers will likely engage in market domination strategies, which can easily lead to a price war, leading market price reductions, squeezing the premium producers (us). That could be one scenario.
An unnecessary and wasteful SOE was created just for fishery marketing. What are they doing?
I would rather see this SOE abolished, and then see MMPRC do joint tourism and fisheries marketing highlighting sustainable tourism and sustainable fisheries together. MMPRC stands for Maldives Marketing, not tourism marketing. I believe both industries can win together - with a sustainable Maldives theme.

Hands off journalists! Leevaan, Shahzan & Adhadhu team must be freed immediately. Stop attacking press freedom. Stop attacking protestors!

My brother Leevan was jailed for doing his job, and now he is being subjected to cruel, unsanitary conditions. Prison authorities have denied him his medication, blocked family funds, and held back his clothes. This isn't just detention, it's targeted persecution.
