@mensiscaged Genuinely so good. Its one of those books where very few people would actually be able to adapt it well for the screen. I need to see it now!!

Love to see that Robert Eggers is embracing an orthochromatic look on WERWULF to capture a very unique palette and texture.
While he initially planned on shooting the film in monochrome (black and white), he later pivoted to a color orthochromatic look. It almost registers as black and white, but has just enough color to feel off - At least based on this first look shot that was just released.
Orthochromatic film is a type of black and white stock that is blind to red light, which tends to crush skin tones among other tonal shifts. To get that aesthetic on a color film, Eggers and longtime DP Jarin Blaschke shot on color 35mm, then emulated the orthochromatic look in post - likely by prioritizing the blue and green channels and severely suppressing red.
They also then added more film grain from actual monochrome film to give it even more character. According to Eggers the goal was to achieve a grungy look with sickly complexions that play into the harsh 13th-century peasant world.
