Happy Birthday, starlight.
Your shine against my dark sky,
Willing to gaze for eons.
Seemingly forever present,
Yet impossibly distant.
The last birthday,
I may ever catch.
For what is your light, really,
But a fleeting reflection,
Of a dying- no,
Of an *already dead, star.
These days, I miss you so much that it aches.
I try so hard to protect the same traumatised boy that came to your room whenever things got so heated.
Now I can't even hug you to make the noise fade away.
I can't go back to that same bedside. It's gone.
You're gone.
Hayz can't say I'm surprised cuz this wasn't the first time you left me in the air without telling me.... on a Saturday....
Maybe forgiving you was a mistake
Choosing to make actual plans with that drunkard and actually sticking to it was all the disrespect I needed to detach.
The nerve of you to cancel out on me but be one call away for that failure.
All that and STILL, no verbal apology.
I don't even know you anymore.
It's sad to think that I turned down better opportunities just to wait for potential that never came into fruition.
It's been years, and everyone remained the same.
A shame.
I was lucky enough to meet you when you shined so brightly.
To see you dim yourself
But never reaching out,
Not even to me,
While all I could do is watch you crash yourself down,
Has got to be the biggest heartbreak I could never even attempt to mend.
How do I mourn for it?
I saw someone who dressed like you,
Pushing a shopping cart,
Together with someone else.
I don't know why that stung.
Maybe that WOULD be you one day,
And if it makes you happy,
I hope it will be.
But I also hope I never get to see that version...
For the rest of my life.
