@CharleyWhiskers@frankeman25@sapphyreblayze Correct.
However take a look at the bands. In Denmark the top rate kicks in around $120k. Your marginal rate in the US at that level is 22%, less than half of the ~60% rate in DK.
The top rate of 37% in the US does not kick in until well over half a million USD.
@lelitchispatial@sapphyreblayze All cars in Denmark are imported.
Denmark does not make any cars. The tax applies to every single car sold. Whether a Honda or a Porsche.
Many states in the US have zero VAT. Most are in the single digits. And they don't apply to everything, eg not food.
I'll leave it here.
@americandad99@sapphyreblayze Correct.
A good friend of mine died at 34 in Denmark after the doctors ignored, for about a year, his complaints about stomach pains. When they finally signed him up for a scan, the wait was 3 months.
He died from stomach cancer.
@jonas_bystrom@sapphyreblayze Good for you.
The marginal tax rate in, say, Denmark is 60.5%.
On top, you pay 25% value added tax on everything
You also have green fees, and a 50-150% import tax on cars.
70% is a low number when you do this honestly.
Sweden may be lower I have heard.
@KapteinLok@sapphyreblayze Good for you.

@frankeman25@sapphyreblayze Maybe you haven't thought this through, or maybe you are on government support, don't own a car, and never bought anything.

@gayspyalex@sapphyreblayze Near the top, yes.
If you lived there and were chased by bureaucrats who rummage through your trash to see if you sorted correctly (and fine you if you didn't), only for all the trash to get thrown in the same pile eventually, you would be grumpy as well.
@LeneFromNorway@sapphyreblayze I won't spent a lot of time on this.
But just say the following.
The marginal tax rate in, say, Denmark is 60.5%.

@sapphyreblayze 175,000 Europeans die annually simply for lack of A/C.
Meanwhile the Institute for Medicine estimate that 25k-68k people in the US die for lack of healthcare.
As an Ex-European, I understand the knee jerk reaction to defend your turf. But as some point it's just cope.
@Brih1969@RightsRobins The GDP of the UK is lower than that of the poorest US state, Mississippi
What we take for granted here represents luxury to a lot of Europeans. I know, I grew up and lived half my life in Scandinavia.
@Aunty_Bigot Ex-European here.
It's not that I care, personally.
But according to the WHO, Europe had some 200,000 heat related deaths over the past ten years.
This past week alone, 40 people drowned in France, trying to cool themselves.
So maybe the Euros should think about A/C.
@ThoughtMiss@MarvinTBaumann He's an academic who talks and writes.
Not much lived experience and generally averse to factual counterpoints.
Remind him that Germany's GDP per person is on par with the poorest US state (Mississippi) and he will dodge and talk about "free" daycare.
@MarvinTBaumann@ThoughtMiss Goated, really?
I was born there and lived there for decades before moving to the US.
I am much freer, happier and richer here (by about 100x).
Oh yes the Danes have "free" healthcare and daycare. Says the people who never experienced 70-80% effective tax rates.
@JordanSoze Correct.
There is massive distortion from the media. People are gullible, so they believe it, and never question anything.
The natural distrust of authorities we have in the US is replaced by an authoritarian psyops in Europe.
@BeaLawson27@politiflops@AzPetrich When my wife's father fell down stairs and broke his 3rd vertebrae, the Danish doctor suggested pulling the plug on his life support since "he was taking up space for someone younger".
He had paid taxes all life and died at 68
Didn't see much of the "universal HC" benefits.
