I’m probably dating myself badly, but it’s funny how life works.

Bamboo, with his old band Rivermaya, was the last artist I saw on a mall tour at the old Harrison Plaza before I left the Philippines. I hope my memory serves me right, but I remember him performing barefoot with his long hair. After I left, and knowing I wouldn’t be going back home anytime soon, I made the decision to stop listening to OPM altogether not because I didn’t love it, but because it made me miss home too much.

Back then, it was easier. We didn’t have streaming, and grunge and alternative rock were everywhere, so moving on happened almost naturally.

The years passed. I became completely immersed in Western music, went to countless concerts, and honestly forgot about OPM altogether.

Then I discovered SB19.

At first, I didn’t know how to classify what I was hearing, but the sound felt so fresh and the vocals were so amazing that I was instantly hooked. Never in a million years did I think I’d find myself looking back to the Philippines for music again. Now, it’s mostly all I listen to.

Because of SB19, I’ve discovered so many incredible P-pop and OPM artists-too many to mention. I’m even planning to see Missioned Souls in September, just a little over a month after Lollapalooza.

So thank you, SB19. And thank you, Pablo. Hatdog po ako tsaka sobrang angas ng performance at picture. Nakaka-proud!
