@maxtempers But then I ask myself "Why is TfL worried about this? Has there been a spate of balding men in dressing gowns hiding stolen pumpkins on, say, the Northern Line?" Is this a Hallowe'en specific crime? Should we be worried? Who are these men? Should I consider a Citizen's Arrest?
@maxtempers A bald man looking over his shoulder because he thinks someone is onto him because he's hiding a stolen pumpkin under his dressing gown. Possibly in time for Hallowe'en. Am I even close? Actually, this could be quite an exciting story, and very topical.
@FMBradley4@TrinkPeer@Will_Tanner_1 Sorry, had to dash off. Medical emergency at the village fundraiser: an elderly man was choking on his own necktie. Disaster. Luckily, a thoracic surgeon was there, and he was able to trill out the glad words: "That is LeBron James and his wife Savannah (nee Brinson)." Phew.
@FMBradley4@Will_Tanner_1 Sweet of you, but I really don't. I'm an old woman in the rural depths of southern England. But I will acquaint myself, I truly will.
@CarolDillon29 Well, it's a start. I bought a tub of Quality Street, 2 pkts of Rennies and a pencil sharpener. The pencil sharpener was an impulse buy: I got panicky about a lack of biros in the house. As for the dogs, I've ordered a bulk bag of dried sprats, poor things.
@Gaynotqueer1 "Exhausting"? How is he exhausted? My father was an NHS GP for 47 years. He was sometimes exhausted, called out at 3.00 am, duffel coat over his pyjamas, to deliver a baby or hold hands with the dying. Patients had our home phone no in those days. He put ALL his patients first.
@RoyRogers_HTMS In July '68 my visiting grandfather took the recorder from my grasp and broke it over his knee. I had played Hernando's Hideaway almost non-stop for 3 days and he could take no more. The next day, in the grasp of guilt, he bought me a new one. I played Ragtime Cowboy Joe instead.
#thecelebritytraitors#celebritytraitors Not sure about Claudia's trouser suit, to be honest. Very similar to something Norman Wisdom wore in Trouble In Store. Just before he sets his trousers on fire.
@trad_west_ I do this if I'm going on a long journey or feel anxious about travelling. It comes from childhood: my grandmother used to pin so many "miraculous medals" into the lining of my coat, I used to sound like a little bell as I walked along! Now a grandmother myself, I still do it.
#universitychallenge Yes, OK, that was a proper picture round, with pictures. But I prefer picture rounds when I recognise everyone in the pictures. My ideal picture round would be Pinky & Perky, Clodagh Rodgers, The Dave Clark Five and Tony Bastable.
#aberfan Olds like me remember this terrible day. I came home and my mother said "A very bad thing has happened in Wales. Lots of children are dead". And when I asked how she said "They've been buried in mud". I shudder when I recall her words. I prayed my heart out that night.
#universitychallenge Every week, Amol Rajan tells the teams how nice it is that they applaud. As if he's expecting them to pelt each other with small bread rolls. Or sit in baleful silence while the theme tune swells about them. (Liskova last week a key reference here).
#universitychallenge That wasn't a picture round. That was cocktail recipes. I like picture rounds with a photo of Eddie Waring and the question Who is this man and what is he doing?
@HavelockRoadBtn@PolygoniaSpec There'll be Barnacle Geese over the White Cliffs of Dover. (Doesn't scan, but people should learn to sing more quickly in my view).
#mastermind Ah yes, that wartime spirit-raiser sung by Dame V. Lynn. "There'll be albatrosses over the White Cliffs of Dover". A really beautiful sentiment.
