STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Please go and rewrite your statement of purpose if you cannot find the following components in it.

It mustn't follow the same order but it MUST contain all the elements described below.

Statement of purpose itself is a comprehensive statement of about two pages (or three max) summarising your background and prospects. Now, there is a way you can partition your SOP with different messages for different paragraphs to make them have logical flow.

NB: people have different styles but here is what worked for me.

Paragraph 1 can be an introduction & your motivation/inspiration for a graduate degree.

Paragraph 2 can be your academic /work history/experience (write about your academic qualification (s), professional qualification/ certifications in here.

Paragraph 3 could be about your research experiences. (in this paragraph, briefly discuss your undergraduate project and any other research projects) you have been exposed to).

Paragraphs 4&5 can try to link your research interest to those of your potential professors. Check research areas of some of the faculty i.e professors and mention the ones you'll like to work with and how their research align with your goals.

Paragraph 6&7 can be about what you want to achieve with the graduate degree you're interested in pursuing. Write about what the degree will help you attain in life, it could be academia, industry etc.

Finally, Paragraph 8 can be about your extra curricular activities, leadership roles & other things you'd like to mention to the admission committee & that can boost your application.

Note: these are all short paragraphs that lets everything into two pages only (or 3 max depending on relevance of content & program requirements).
