I began to realize that the bells & the confinement, the age-segregation, the lack of privacy, the constant surveillance, & all the rest of the national curriculum of schooling
were designed exactly as if someone had set out to prevent children from learning how to think & act
One of the first things a family tries to teach its children
is the difference between good and evil, right and wrong.
One of the first things our schools do is destroy that distinction.
Our cultural dilemma has nothing to do with children who don't read very well.
It lies instead in the difficulty of finding a way to restore meaning and purpose to modern life.
Boys like Andrew Carnegie who begged his mother not to send him to school
& was well on his way to immortality & fortune at the age of 13,
would be referred today for psychological counseling;
Thomas Edison would find himself in Special Ed until his..genius had been tamed
You're right. It is illegal. I once spoke to a school lawyer in Boston. Lots of school districts pay a retainer fee to a big law firm with someone who knows school law. All K-12 curr. material must be made available to any citizen who wants to see it https://t.co/Y7pIdfVSx0
Speak to a school lawyer. Parents do have the right to see everything prior to teaching. Local school board can tell super to ensure that. @sgstotsky https://t.co/Dnw1tpLBMp

#InTheNameOfEquity Yet another example of how to achieve 21st century equity. Don't strengthen curriculum for low achievers; just take away advanced coursework for those capable of doing it. @sgstotsky Promoted by EdWeek. https://t.co/LKRN0Mfd10
Why is the "equity" answer never to teach minorities better, but to take advanced coursework away from those who can take it? @sgstotsky https://t.co/ihBEFXcC9T
Until governor can show evidence that programs designed to improve education actually do, no data can be collected. @sgstotsky Burden of proof on them. https://t.co/4ld34EwgYQ
Reflections on mapping out educational vs. social vs compliance within the CA Ed accountability system. If the goal is education, raising the bar, & improved student outcomes, how come there so little accountability in the education circle and so much in the social circle?
#EdWeek It is doing its best to promote Common Core-aligned standards and tests now in State Plans. Since CC widens "gaps" and weakens public education, it is not clear why it doesn't refuse Gates et al funding.

@johnwalkeroned@CSBA_Now The dashboard is stupidly confusing. Makes my eyes cross. And I have heard other parents complain about it as well. CA just can't get education right, no matter how much money they throw or not throw at it.
#CC Only 13% of AA students "at or above proficient" on grade 8 NAEP math in 2015 & 2017. Why no complaints about CC from Civil Rights orgs? What can & do high schools do?
