The entertainment industry used stereotypes of gay man to produce laughs for the viewers watching the film. Their sexuality wasn’t taken seriously. #gsuafh1
The Celluloid Closet highlighted the way the entertainment industry shaped society’s perception of people who didn’t conform to what society thought was correct behavior from a man and woman during this time period. #gsuafh1
Hitchcock is a controversial person in my eyes. On one hand he’s been so influential to the film industry that you just want to embrace his creative skills in his films but on the other hand, he has a dark side to him that gets swept under because of his creativity. #gsuafh1
Visions of Light has shown how far the film industry has come with sound & the camera. It’s crazy to think that once sound was introduced, the camera wasn’t as free & actors had to stand close to the microphone to make sure the voice was heard. #gsuafh1
It was troubling to hear what Maureen O’Hara and Tippi Hedren went through in the film industry. It made me wonder, if this type of harassment has been going on for decades than why hasn’t this news been publicized more in the media. #gsuafh1
Juanita Moore, the woman who played Annie in Imitation of Life, really brought more to her character than the film industry asked for at the time by downplaying stereotypes & showing humanity. #gsuafh1
Imitation of Life captured and brought to film the problems African Americans faced in everyday life. It made people question what race was. History repeats itself because in modern days, blacks want a true representation in movies. #gsuafh1
Key & Peele’s Negrotown musical is a perfect conflict for modern day. It shows the perfect utopia for blacks while going back to reality at the end, which is the black guy getting arrested for doing absolutely nothing. #gsuafh1
Musicals became popular in the 1930s because it was a way to escape reality, which people were dealing with the Great Depression, in order to fantasize about a utopia in this dystopia world people were living in once they broke out into songs. #gsuafh1
The film, His Girl Friday shows the classical representation of a romance comedy genre in today’s society. The concepts and values from the 1940s obviously haven’t change much in this genre if modern day themes coincide with the early black & white films. #gsuafh1
In a time where sex wasn’t used or shown in public, Clara Bow changed history with becoming an early sex symbol in the 1920s which paved a way for actresses like Marilyn Monroe. #gsuafh1
Clara Bow’s scandals from the 1920s have changed today. The drug abuse, lesbianism, incest and insanity accusations ran her out of Hollywood due to it being to much for her. However, accusations like that today are easily removed from ones image once discredited. #gsuafh1
Steamboat Bill, Jr’s Hurricane scene stunts and effects were very effective. I thought it looked very realistic and could definitely pass in today’s society for a low budget film in color. #gsuafh1
The documentary Vaudeville gave insight on how films have developed from the 60s to now. The black & white to color & the length of films. It was interesting to learn that these films were targeted on the working class during that time with acts instead of a movie. #gsuafh1
Zeynep Tufekci made an interesting point on how powerful algorithms are Technology has become so advanced that if you watch one YouTube video, the algorithm will keep showing you more videos similar to the content to keep your attention while also exposing you to ads #gsupopcult
I thought “White Savior” was a perfect depiction on how certain movies are when they are addressing racism. Also, it was amusing and funny to watch and very direct. #gsupopcult
In “Color Adjustment” it was interesting to learn that whites impersonated black voices on the radio but had to assemble an entire black cast when it moved to television which became popular despite the stereotypes. #gsupopcult
Exit Through the Gift Shop was an interesting documentary. I love how it showed the public’s opinion on graffiti and how that opinion changed over time. Street art is a form of art and should be expressed. #gsupopcult
A Remix of Manifesto shows that culture is built from the past so when it comes to music, an artist got its basic beat, inspiration or rhythm from something that already exist. #gsupopcult
