AMORIM | LESSON IN CULTURE BUILDING | PHASE 1 🔴⚫️

One thing Amorim is clearly good at is building culture and cleaning ship.

There’s actually a textbook organisational psychology principle behind the way he operates: Schneider’s Attraction–Selection–Attrition framework.

The basic idea is that strong cultures are shaped by who is selected, rewarded and ultimately allowed to remain inside the group. Individual quality alone ISN’T enough. The people have to fit the standards, behaviours and collective identity Amorim is trying to establish.

Since arriving at Milan, Nkunku, Ricci, Athekame, Kostić and Odogu have either been loaned out or moved towards the exit, while Tomori and Fofana are outside the project.

At the same time, he has integrated young players such as Camarda, Cissé, Comotto and Diawara, while giving new opportunities and roles to players like Musah and Chukwueze.

And that’s what makes some of Amorim’s decisions so interesting.

Fofana, Tomori and Nkunku are not bad footballers. On individual quality alone, Amorim could absolutely use them. Yet he has been willing to remove useful players while rehabilitating others expected them to be sold.

The main question he evaluates:

“Does this player strengthen the environment I’m trying to build?”

Tactical fit. Coachability. Role acceptance. Training standards. Mentality. Collective behaviour.

He did it at Sporting. He did it at Manchester United. And he is doing it again at Milan. A pattern that is NO coincidence.

Building a winning culture that, after 2–3 years, stops being a project and simply becomes the IDENTITY of the club.
