【マエストロ・ロトに聞く①】🎙️Ask Maestro Roth #1
オーケストラ コンサートBでブルックナーの交響曲第8番を指揮するフランソワ＝グザヴィエ・ロト。オーケストラ「レ・シエクル」を創設したことで知られる、文字通りの鬼才です。マエストロにいくつか質問をしてみました。
François-Xavier Roth conducts Bruckner’s Symphony No. 8 in Orchestra Concert B. He is a true maverick, best known as the founder of the orchestra ‘Les Siècles’. We asked him a few questions.

Q: サイトウ・キネン・オーケストラとの共演は初めてですが、どんなイメージを持っていますか？ 期待することはありますか？
As this will be your first collaboration with the Saito Kinen Orchestra, what kind of image or expectations do you have of this orchestra?

A: サイトウ・キネン・オーケストラのことは、十代、もしかしたら子どもの頃から知っていましたよ。小澤征爾マエストロとサイトウ・キネン・オーケストラのCDを買ったのをよく覚えています。当時の私は、日本のことをまったく知りませんでした。日本を訪れたのは、ずっと後になってからです。私にとって日本は、何より「神話」のようなものでした。クラシック音楽を深く愛する国、そしてトップ奏者が集う音楽祭のためのオーケストラが存在する国として。当時のヨーロッパにはまだルツェルン祝祭管弦楽団のようなオーケストラもありませんでしたから、日本のトップ奏者たちが集まったサイトウ・キネン・オーケストラには、まさしく「わお！」でした。そしてもちろん、小澤マエストロがこのオーケストラをひとつにまとめ上げる様は、本当に魅力的でした。ブラームスやシュトラウスの録音を初めて聴いたときの衝撃は忘れられません。「これは理想のオーケストラだ」と感じました。音楽のためだけに集い、偉大なマエストロ小澤とともに音楽をつくる人々。その姿に深く心を動かされました。

The Saito Kinen Orchestra is an orchestra I know since I was a teenager, if not a child, and I remember the CDs I bought from Maestro Seiji Ozawa and the Saito Kinen Orchestra. And, you know, at that time, I didn't know Japan at all. I visited - I did visit Japan much later on. And Japan was, first of all, like a myth. A very special country which loves so much classical music, and this fantastic orchestra, Festival Orchestra, which means a lot, and at the time also, we have to say Lucerne Festival Orchestra, or other orchestras like that, didn't exist, actually, in Europe, in Europe, so the Saito Kinen Orchestra was a kind of ,wow, orchestra with the Top players, top Japanese orchestra players. And for sure, Maestro Ozawa united this orchestra in a fascinating way and manner. And I have a memory of listening to these recordings Brahms or Strauss with such an impression that this is an ideal orchestra, actually, people who meet just for the music and to work with this huge maestro, Ozawa.
